Baseball Recap: Suffield Academy Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Cheshire Academy, Suffield Academy was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Hamden Hall Country Day Hornets 6-5. This was payback for the Tigers, who suffered a 10-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Kai Young looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

On the hitting side, Gabriel Rivera and Chase Beloin did most of the damage at the plate: Rivera went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run and three runs, while Beloin got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and three RBI. Those three runs gave Rivera a new career-high. Anthony Greco also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Suffield Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Suffield Academy's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Hamden Hall Country Day, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 8-6 record.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Suffield Academy will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Pomfret School at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Griffins have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Hamden Hall Country Day, they will face off against Wilbraham & Monson Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Titans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.25 runs per game on average), something the Hornets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
