Softball Recap: Lakewood Ranch Beats Bayshore for Their Fourth Straight Win

Lakewood Ranch came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bayshore Bruins a 20-0 shutout. That's more bragging rights for the Mustangs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Bella Toscano made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Toscano was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lakewood Ranch let Sarah Haynie and Shayla Butler run wild. Haynie went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Butler went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those two hits gave Butler a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hana Pierce, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

Lakewood Ranch was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .778. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Lakewood Ranch pushed their record up to 7-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bayshore, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.
