It's playoff time, and Leakey had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on the Bruni Badgers with a sharp 21-1 win on Wednesday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 games by seven runs or more this season.
Anna (AK) Fortner made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Kourtney Rodriguez and Hayden Rimkus did most of the damage at the plate: Rodriguez got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, five RBI, and one run, while Rimkus went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Rimkus has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Angela Lopez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and two runs.
Leakey hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive contests.
Leakey pushed their record up to 18-13-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Bruni, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.
Coming up, Leakey will face off against Moulton on May 3. Bruni does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
