The St. George's Gryphons waltzed into their contest Saturday with four straight wins but they left with five. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 46-44 victory over Brighton. Given St. George's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while Brighton is ranked 282nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. George's got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Noah Land out in front who scored ten points. The contest was Land's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rollin Crose, who scored six points.
St. George's pushed their record up to 5-2 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points per game. As for Brighton, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. George's road trip will continue as they head out to face Kirby at 7:30 p.m. on December 19th. Kirby has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Brighton, they will head out on the road to face off against Arlington at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
