The Mineral County Serpents posted their biggest victory since December 1, 2023 on Saturday. They put the hurt on Excel Christian with a sharp 64-41 win. With Mineral County ahead 41-20 at the half, the game was all but over already.
It was another big night for DeVayne Isom, who scored 21 points along with seven assists and six steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. Triston Jones was another key contributor, scoring five points along with four steals.
Excel Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Mark Doerfler and Keegan Davis. Doerfler scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks, while Davis scored eight points along with seven rebounds. That's the first time this season that Doerfler pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Mineral County now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Excel Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mineral County will take on Pyramid Lake at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Pyramid Lake is ranked 72nd, while Mineral County is ranked 68th). As for Excel Christian, they will play host again and welcome enCompass Academy, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. EnCompass Academy will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
