Springville is a perfect 3-0 against Pleasant Grove since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Red Devils will look to defend their home field against the Vikings at 3:30 p.m. Springville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
Springville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Maple Mountain, who was ranked 20th at the time (Springville was ranked 11th). The Red Devils fell 7-3 to the Eagles on Tuesday. The matchup marked the Red Devils' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Allyx Haveron made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and fired off two home runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Jaz Ciliezar, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Pleasant Grove earned a 9-5 win over Wasatch on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Vikings.
Olivia Barnes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits.
On the hitting side, Allyson Young was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Maya Pawelek, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Pleasant Grove's victory bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Springville, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-3.
Pleasant Grove's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Springville has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Pleasant Grove, though, as they've been averaging 11.5 hits. Given Springville's sizable advantage in that area, the Vikings will need to find a way to close that gap.
Springville was able to grind out a solid win over Pleasant Grove in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 6-3. Do the Red Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
