If The Commerce Tigers were feeling good off their 32-8 takedown of the Rains Wildcats two weeks ago, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Commerce was the victim of a rough 38-13 loss at the hands of Mount Vernon on Friday. Commerce has struggled against Mount Vernon recently, as their contest on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Commerce still got an impressive performance from Treyvion Carter, who rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries.
Even if they lost, Commerce's defensive line still kept up the pressure with five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Sam Underwood and Drelon Crosby who racked up four sacks between them.
Among those leading the charge was Kord Johnson, who threw for 306 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt. Boogie Mitchell was in the mix as well, providing Mount Vernon with two touchdowns.
Commerce's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Mount Vernon, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.
