Patrick County has won nine straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Floyd County has won nine straight on the road also dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Cougars will welcome the Buffaloes at 5:00 p.m. Patrick County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Patrick County was able to grind out a solid victory over Carroll County, taking the game 5-2.
Ava Hiatt was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Journey Moore was another key player, earning one run and two stolen bases.
Floyd County let Glenvar stack five runs on them in the first inning on Friday but luckily Floyd County prevailed anyway. The Buffaloes had just enough and edged out the Highlanders 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Buffaloes have posted since May 23, 2025.
Emma Biesterveld made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lilly Mier-Gillispie, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyra Vaughn, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Floyd County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 14 consecutive games dating back to last season.
Patrick County's victory bumped their record up to 13-3. As for Floyd County, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Patrick County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. However, it's not like Floyd County struggles in that department as they've averaged .396. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
