The Carlsbad Lancers are taking a road trip to challenge the Del Norte Nighthawks at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Carlsbad was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Oceanside on Wednesday. The Lancers were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Pirates. The Lancers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Not much got past Emily Ritter, who gave up just four hits to keep Oceanside off the board.
On the hitting side, Carlsbad got a big performance out of Kendall Rivera, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Autumn Muro, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
Carlsbad always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Del Norte sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over Mt. Carmel on Wednesday. The Nighthawks haven't had any issues with the Sundevils recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Alexis Kyles was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March. Khloe Florez also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Carlsbad's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Del Norte, their record now sits at 8-6-1.
