The Atkins Red Devils will square off against the Perryville Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Atkins has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Atkins came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 12-2 to Clinton.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Perryville). They came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Joseph on Monday, sneaking past 20-19. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their one-run performance the game before.
Bonnie Powell made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and 12 unearned) runs off seven hits. Powell was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one stolen base.
In other batting news, Perryville got a massive performance out of Brooklyn Eppler, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs Eppler has posted since March 6th. Jayden Warren was another key player, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Perryville hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in four consecutive contests.
Perryville pushed their record up to 6-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Atkins, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
Atkins came out on top in a nail-biter against Perryville when the teams last played back in April of 2025, sneaking past 3-1. Will the Red Devils repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
