The Starkville Academy Volunteers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They took a 68-50 bruising from Rossville Christian Academy. While losing is never fun, Starkville Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 167th in Mississippi, while Rossville Christian Academy is ranked 32nd in Tennessee).
Despite the loss, Starkville Academy still got an impressive performance from Luke McKenzie, who scored 26 points. That was a full 52% of Starkville Academy's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Starkville Academy has been struggling recently, as they've lost ten of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season. As for Rossville Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season.
Starkville Academy will head out on the road to square off against Heritage Academy at 7:45 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Heritage Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine contests. Rossville Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
