Basketball Recap: Frederick Wins Going Away Against St. Mary's

Frederick saw some tournament action on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 59-33 margin over the St. Mary's Pirates.

Zoe Wittler was a one-woman wrecking crew for Frederick as she went 10 for 21 on her way to 21 points and three steals. Those 21 points gave Wittler a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Howard, who posted eight points and five rebounds.

Frederick was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Mary's only racked up six assists.

St. Mary's lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jaela Pedro, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards. Pedro is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played dating back to last season. Hope Chavez was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.

Frederick now has a winning record of 2-1. As for St. Mary's, their loss dropped their record down to 1-2.

Frederick wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 60-35 win against Highland on the 7th. As for St. Mary's, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-44 victory against Longmont on the 7th.
