The Columbiana Clippers will square off against the Beaver Local Beavers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Columbiana will be strutting in after a win while Beaver Local will be coming in after a defeat.
Having struggled with six losses in a row, Columbiana turned things around against Leetonia on Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Bears 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Clippers have posted against the Bears since April 7, 2021.
Avery Young made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Columbiana is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-8 otherwise. Young was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hunter Davanzo, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Max Conway, who earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Beaver Local came up short against Weir on Wednesday and fell 12-8. The Beavers haven't had much luck with the Red Riders recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Paxton Grimes was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. He has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Nathan Stull was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Columbiana's win bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Beaver Local, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.
Columbiana took their victory against Beaver Local in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 25-6 score. Do the Clippers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Beavers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
