4A Region III District 17 recap September 10, 2013
Georgetown's Tyler Moody rumbled for the longest rushing play in 4A Region III District 17 this season in his game against McNeil last week. Moody ran for 54 yards on the play and finished with 117 on the day as his team defeated the Mavericks.
Cedar Creek was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in the league. The Eagles vanquished Lanier 34-28 earlier in the week.
Camden Lepley was the best wideout in the league this week as Georgetown beat McNeil. Lepley tallied 10 receptions for 137 yards. Ben Nunes helped Georgetown's passing attack out by catching 8 balls for 46 yards.
Cameron Barron threw for 154 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 11-19 with 1 interceptions.
Te'Rel Simmons provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Elgin topped Lehman. He completed 8 passes for 108 yards and also ran for 182 yards. Simmons' key target this week was Kyle Snell, who caught 2 passes for 30 yards.
Simmons was the most successful running back in 4A Region III District 17 this week. Da'Trean Simmons also contributed to the rushing game with 104 yards on the ground.
Barron put up the best numbers through the air as Bastrop beat Gonzales. Barron's favorite target this week was Logan Allen, who caught 5 passes for 80 yards.
Jason Dean's team's Ben Bottlinger and Lepley have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Bottlinger has thrown for 274 yards this season, while Lepley has 15 catches for 188 yards. Simmons from the Wildcats leads the league in rushing with 330 yards.
East View moved up to 344 from 771 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. East View was able to make move up by beating St. Michael's 51-30.
