Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 13 to 5 on the offensive boards, a fact the Latta Vikings proved on Thursday. They skirted past East Clarendon 40-38. The win made it back-to-back wins for Latta.
Latta's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Shawniza Bethea, who scored 19 points along with 6 rebounds and 6 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Azarriona Mcrae, who scored 4 points along with 10 rebounds.
Several Wolverines players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hayden White, who scored 9 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Another player making a difference was Jasmyne Lloyd, who scored 8 points.
Latta now has a winning record of 2-1. As for East Clarendon, they have yet to win a match on the road this season, leaving them with a 5-1 record.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Latta will square off against Aynor at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Aynor will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. East Clarendon won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hannah-Pamplico at 6:00 p.m. on December 8th. Hannah-Pamplico is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
