Williams and Bagdad are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2016, but not for long. The Vikings will head out to square off against the Sultans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Williams comes in on three and Bagdad on nine.
Williams is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They took down St. David 58-40.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Mario Pedraza and Chase Pacheco. Pedraza had a great game and gained 156 total yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Pacheco was balling out in the loss, picking up 78 receiving yards and two scores, while also rushing for 74 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries.
Meanwhile, Bagdad faced Valley Union in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Sultans claimed a resounding 60-0 victory over the Blue Devils. The Sultans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Bagdad's win came from a few key players Williams will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Thomas Rodriguez, who rushed for 173 yards and a pair of TDs on only 14 carries. He also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up a sack and making three total tackles. Ezrah Aguilar was another key player, throwing for 164 yards and four touchdowns.
Bagdad was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 244 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Bagdad's defense and their four sacks. Aguilar was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. He is also on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last six games he's played.
Williams' win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Bagdad, their victory bumped their record up to 9-0.
Friday's contest might be decided in the trenches. Williams has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 239.1 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Bagdad, though, as they've been averaging only 81.2 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Williams took a serious blow against Bagdad in their previous meeting back in September, falling 62-26. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
