Lars Nootbaar and Jamie Stewart provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Oak Park. The longest such play in Pioneer this season, the connection resulted in 68 yards.
Lawndale extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Palos Verdes Peninsula, 32-24. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Nootbaar threw for 224 yards and 5 touchdowns. He was 17-31 with 2 interceptions.
Stewart was the best wideout in the league this week as El Segundo lost to the Eagles. Stewart racked up 5 receptions for 145 yards. Connor Underwood helped El Segundo's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 44 yards.
Leading Pioneer in both passing and receiving yards, the Eagles' Nootbaar and Stewart have proven to be a lethal combination. Nootbaar has thrown for 876 yards this season, while Stewart, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 24 catches for 551 yards. Torrance's David Aros leads the league in rushing yards with 278.
Lawndale moved up to 378 from 471 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Rick Mathiesen's team climbed the ranks as a result of topping the Panthers 32-24.
