Winslow dropped their record down to 17-12 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Show Low Cougars by a score of 9-7. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-3 back in March.
Kyah Wilcox put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Ara Leonard was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
As for Show Low, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs over those games.
Like Winslow, Show Low also got a great game from a two-way player: Addisyn Clark. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Clark a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
Clark wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Rylee Wyatt, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Gracie Umphress was another, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Winslow didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 9-5 defeat against Snowflake on the 28th. As for Show Low, they have also already played their next matchup, an 8-6 victory against Joseph City on the 26th.
