Emma Morales was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Avenal let Natalia Ruiz and Malia Parez run wild. Ruiz went 2-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three RBI, while Parez got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. With that strong performance, Ruiz is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Lauryn Lucero was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Avenal lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Dos Palos' good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Coalinga by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Broncos couldn't push the score so high this time.
Jayla Bland was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
Avenal's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-4-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Dos Palos, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 11-8-1.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Avenal has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .513. However, it's not like Dos Palos struggles in that department as they've averaged .457. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Avenal might still be hurting after the 7-1 defeat they got from Dos Palos in their previous matchup on April 4th. Can the Buccaneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
