The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Unioto Shermans at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Lynchburg-Clay will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak.
Unioto's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Friday: Lynchburg-Clay hadn't allowed a single run the last eight times they've hit the field. The Mustangs didn't even let Whiteoak on the board on Wednesday, marking the Mustangs' second-straight 6-0 shutout. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Cole Wells was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braedon West, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Cody Bell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Zane Trace typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Unioto proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 6-1 win over the Pioneers. The Shermans haven't had any issues with the Pioneers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Like Lynchburg-Clay, Unioto also got a great game from a two-way player: KB Perkins. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Perkins was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Jaxon Zickafoose was excellent, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs. Braydon White also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Lynchburg-Clay pushed their record up to 17-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Unioto, their record is now 18-6.
Lynchburg-Clay couldn't quite get it done against Unioto when the teams last played back in April as they fell 5-1. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
