Softball Recap: Rising Tide Wins Going Away Against St. John Paul II

Rising Tide got themselves on the board against St. John Paul II on Thursday, but St. John Paul II never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 19-0 margin over the Lions. Rising Tide might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by 12 runs or more this season.

Alanna Flanders was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Rising Tide got a massive performance out of Shelby Ruth, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Emily Melby, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Rising Tide always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .763. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. John Paul II only posted an OBP of .238.

Rising Tide has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.9 runs over those games. As for St. John Paul II, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-5.

Coincidentally, Rising Tide and St. John Paul II will both be playing Mashpee the next time they take the field. St. John Paul II will head out to face Mashpee at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, while Rising Tide will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
