Rossville is 8-2 against Sheridan since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Hornets will host the Blackhawks at 5:30 p.m. Rossville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Rossville took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against Lafayette Central Catholic, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Hornets had just enough and edged out the Knights 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hornets have posted since April 21st.
The team relied heavily on Nolan Britt, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Andrew Woolen was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Sheridan gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over Elwood. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Blackhawks.
Braelan Bochner was a standout: he went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Sheridan is undefeated when Bochner posts two or more runs, but 1-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jacob Hall, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Sheridan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Rossville is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for Sheridan, their victory bumped their record up to 4-9.
Sheridan's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Rossville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. It's a different story for Sheridan, though, as they've only averaged .346. Will they be able to contain Rossville's hitters?
Rossville beat Sheridan 4-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Blackhawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
