Clinton and Tyngsborough are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Gaels are taking a road trip to face off against the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Clinton has three straight wins, Tyngsborough has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Clinton barely beat Lunenburg the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Gaels put the hurt on the Blue Knights with a sharp 8-1 victory on Monday. Considering the Gaels have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Brian Silvester made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Jake Notaro was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Tyngsborough took on Quabbin Regional on Monday. The Tigers lost 10-0 to the Panthers.
Clinton's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Tyngsborough, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7-1.
Clinton's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Gaels have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Tyngsborough, though, as they've been averaging only 0.5 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Clinton continue to outrun the ball?
Clinton took their win against Tyngsborough in their previous matchup on April 2nd by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gaels since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
