The Jupiter Christian Eagles will take on the Highlands Christian Knights at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Jupiter Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Jupiter Christian easily dispatched Somerset Academy - Canyons on Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Jupiter Christian fell just short of King's Academy by a score of 5-3 on Thursday. The Eagles have struggled against the Lions recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meetings.
Jupiter Christian saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Troy Spano, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Spano has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another was Matthew Schulz, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Highlands Christian had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Defenders a 14-0 shutout. Considering the Knights have won four games by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Sage Chartier made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4.
In other pitching news, John Elwell looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched.
Back at the plate, Steven Perals was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Highlands Christian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Matthew Friedman was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Four bases.
Highlands Christian's win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Jupiter Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Jupiter Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Highlands Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Jupiter Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Highlands Christian in their previous matchup back in April of 2019, sneaking past 3-2. Will Jupiter Christian repeat their success, or does Highlands Christian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
