The St. Paul Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Centura, falling 49-21. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat St. Paul has suffered since December 16, 2023.
When it comes to explaining why St. Paul lost, one person who can't be blamed is Gracie Kelley. Despite the final result, she scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. That was a full 52.4% of St. Paul's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, St. Paul struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They are winless (0-3) when they just don't pass the ball.
Centura's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kyra Wooden, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Wooden hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Hope Mcdonald, who scored five points along with four steals.
St. Paul dropped their record down to 3-12 with that loss, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 29.6 points per game. As for Centura, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-5.
St. Paul will head out on the road to challenge Central City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Central City is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games. As for Centura, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Ravenna at 6:00 p.m.
