Shasta Cascade recap Oct. 23, 2012
Modoc extended the longest winning streak in Shasta Cascade this week by beating Fall River, 50-49. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Modoc's dynamic duo of Cam Anderson and Riley Larranaga proved tough for the Bulldogs to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Anderson threw for 315 yards and six touchdowns and Larranaga had 186 yards receiving. Alex Torres helped Modoc's passing attack out by catching four balls for 80 yards.
Robert Wall was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 168 yards on 25 carries as Burney beat Fall River. Michael Gallagher also contributed to the rushing game with 111 yards on the ground.
The Braves' Anderson and Larranaga have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Anderson has thrown for 1484 yards this season, while Larranaga, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 48 catches for 1020 yards. Wall from the Raiders leads the league in rushing with 1258 yards.
The top two teams in Shasta Cascade will face off this week when first place Modoc takes on second place Burney. Modoc defeated Rick Neugebauer's team last week, while Burney beat Etna.
There should be lots of points scored when the Braves and Clint Mcclurg's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Modoc comes in having scored 251 this season, while the Raiders have scored 222. The Braves scored 50 points last week as they topped the Bulldogs.
Burney made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 11,640 from 11,808. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 38-18 victory over the Lions last week.
