2A Eastern Plains recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Kinston, who took down 51st ranked Kinston, 31-12.
Southwest Edgecombe was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in 2A Eastern Plains. The Cougars defeated Farmville Central 38-14 earlier in the week.
The Vikings' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. VeQuain Joyner threw for 131 and one touchdown and Josh Dawson had 40 yards receiving. On the ground George Jones chipped in 149 yards. Tiquan Canady helped Kinston's passing attack out by catching one ball for 39 yards.
Kinston's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Vikings feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Joyner has thrown for 1053 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, while Jones has 13 catches for 256 yards. Jones leads the league in rushing with 378 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Beddingfield takes on Southwest Edgecombe. At the moment, the Bruins are in second, while Raymond Cobb's team is in third.
The Cougars moved up to 126 from 158 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A Eastern Plains. Southwest Edgecombe climbed the ranks as a result of a 38-14 win over the Jaguars.
