The Paxton Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Southwest Roughriders at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Paxton has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 334 points over their last seven contests.
Last Friday, Paxton got the win against Wauneta-Palisade by a conclusive 40-20. The result was nothing new for Paxton, who have now won three matches by 20 points or more so far this season.
Gunnar Foster continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 232 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.7 yards per carry. Foster's longest rush was for an incredible 78 yards.
Meanwhile, Southwest didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Wallace on Friday, but they still walked away with a 20-14 victory. The win made it back-to-back wins for Southwest.
Southwest's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nathan Rippe led the charge by picking up 109 receiving yards and a touchdown, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Southwest also got a significant boost from Mitchell Stritt, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 98 yards.
Their wins bumped Paxton to 4-3 and Southwest to 5-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's game: Paxton has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 191 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Southwest struggles in that department as they've been averaging 157.7 per game. It's looking like Thursday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Paxton came up short against Southwest in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, falling 47-42. Can Paxton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
