McDowell won the last time they faced Erwin and things went their way on Tuesday too. The McDowell Titans simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Erwin Warriors 83-53. The Titans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 23 points or more this season.
McDowell had a senior duo take command as Derrick Forney Jr posted 20 points and Kyson Rinnert earned 19 points. Rinnert's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Levi Boone was another key player, putting up nine points.
Erwin lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Avery Rymer, who went 6 of 15 to rack up 15 points along with six boards and three steals. That's the most steals he has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Wallace, who put up 15 points.
The win was the fifth in a row for McDowell, bringing their record for this year to 20-2. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.2 points over those games. As for Erwin, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-13.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. McDowell will take on A.C. Reynolds at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in A.C. Reynolds' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 19 matchups. As for Erwin, they will square off against North Buncombe at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. North Buncombe has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
