It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Baldwyn Bearcats had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed by Smithville at home to the tune of 45-6. Considering Baldwyn has won five contests by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Baldwyn's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Terrell Robinson, who rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Dy'Lan Johnson, who threw for 158 yards and three touchdowns on only ten passes.
Despite the loss, Smithville still got an impressive performance from Barker O'Brian, who rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown on only six carries. O'Brian's longest rush was for an incredible 74 yards.
Baldwyn is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. As for Smithville, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.
Baldwyn will be playing at home against Vardaman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Vardaman will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line. Smithville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
