2A Conference 9 recap November 5, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 2A Conference 9 this week, Monroe beat West Stanly 48-8. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Redhawks.
The Colts fell to Monroe 48-8 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Zephaniah Wall threw for 197 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Wall put up the best numbers through the air as Johnny Sowell's team bested West Stanly. Wall's favorite target this week was Jaylan Barbour, who caught 6 passes for 91 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Parkwood's Grey Wyrick and Sam Mobley have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-1 quarterback Wyrick has thrown for 1,408 yards this season, while Mobley has 43 catches for 827 yards. Forest Hills's Jared Lee leads the league in rushing yards with 1,008.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Monroe takes on second place Forest Hills. The Redhawks bested James Johnson's team last week, while the Yellowjackets defeated Central Academy.
One of 2A Conference 9's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when the Rebels and the Cougars face off next week.
Mount Pleasant made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,412 from 6,919. The improvement was largely due to a 20-14 victory over Parkwood last week.
