Softball Recap: Monday's Win Is Highlands' 17th in Last 18 Outings

After only two runs in their last match, Highlands made sure to put some runs up on the board against Dixie Heights on Monday. The Bluebirds put the hurt on the Colonels with a sharp 14-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Bluebirds, who have now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Kaitlyn Dixon made a big impact no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Highlands got a massive performance out of Kate Class, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Class a new career-high. Natalie Abdon also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Highlands always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dixie Heights only posted an OBP of .062.

Highlands is on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 18 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-6-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Dixie Heights, they dropped their record down to 2-17 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Highlands didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 11-0 win against Walton-Verona on the 13th. As for Dixie Heights, they will welcome Bracken County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Polar Bears will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Colonels surely won't give up without a fight.
