Neumann Regional Academy is 9-1 against Bucktail since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Golden Knights will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bucks at 4:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Neumann Regional Academy is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Muncy just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Indians by a score of 5-4.
Angelo Birch was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
Birch wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Clark Bower, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double was Bower's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Bucktail suffered their closest defeat since April 19, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Sugar Valley Rural by a score of 6-4. The Bucks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Like Neumann Regional Academy, Bucktail also got a great game from a two-way player: Keller Friese. He struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Friese was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
In other batting news, Cael Dorman made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Tyler Hillyer, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.
Bucktail's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Neumann Regional Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-3.
Everything went Neumann Regional Academy's way against Bucktail in their previous meeting back in March, as Neumann Regional Academy made off with a 17-2 victory. Will the Golden Knights repeat their success, or do the Bucks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
