The Columbia Crimson Tide will take on the Mount Calvary Christian Chargers at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Columbia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Columbia's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over York County Tech. While the Crimson Tide didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
The result came thanks to Peyton Gilbert's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up 14 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cameron McClair was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing six bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Mummaw, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Mount Calvary Christian narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Christian School of York 5-4. The Chargers haven't had any issues with Christian School of York recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on David Zamora, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI. Josiah Masters was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Columbia pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 8.2 runs this season. As for Mount Calvary Christian, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Mount Calvary Christian's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Columbia has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .455. It's a different story for Mount Calvary Christian, though, as they've only averaged .362. Will they be able to contain Columbia's hitters?
Columbia might still be hurting after the 16-9 loss they got from Mount Calvary Christian in their previous meeting back in April of 2022. Can Columbia avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
