The Mercer Christian Academy Cavaliers pushed their score all the way to 63 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 72-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mountain Mission. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game on Monday (62), Mercer Christian Academy still had to take the loss.
Mercer Christian Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was MJ Patton, who scored 29 points along with nine rebounds and seven assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Patton has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chance Watkins, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.
It was another big night for Imani Chacha, who scored 19 points along with eight assists and eight steals for Mountain Mission. That's the first time this season that Chacha posted eight or more assists. Abel Mesfin was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with three steals.
Mercer Christian Academy's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-8. As for Mountain Mission, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mercer Christian Academy will take on Greater Beckley Christian at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Greater Beckley Christian has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 366 points over their last five contests. As for Mountain Mission, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Wesley Christian on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Wesley Christian is ranked 129th in Kentucky, while Mountain Mission is ranked 138th in Virginia).
