The Martinsville Pirates came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They snuck past Slocum with a 36-30 victory. The score was all tied up 20-20 at the break, but Martinsville was the better team in the second half.
Despite the defeat, Slocum saw an underclassman step up: Carter Sbrusch scored 23 points along with three steals and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Sbrusch posted two or more blocks.
Martinsville is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. As for Slocum, they bumped their record down to 8-16 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.
Martinsville will take on Neches at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Slocum, they will head out on the road to face off against Wells at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
