On Wednesday, the Woodson Warriors faced the Coolidge Colts in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Woodson had to suffer through a rough 49-19 loss at the hands of Coolidge. The defeat means Woodson is still on the hunt for the season's first 'W'.
It was another big night for Josslyn Derricott, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds for Coolidge. That makes it three consecutive games in which Derricott has scored at least a third of Coolidge's points. Another player making a difference was Jaylyn Derricott, who scored five points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Woodson bumped their record down to 0-4 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.0 points per game. As for Coolidge, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Woodson will take on Jackson-Reed at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Coolidge, they will head out on the road to challenge Maret at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Maret focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Thursday.
