In what's become a running theme this season, Sunnyslope gave their fans yet another huge victory on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Liberty 68-34 at home. Given Sunnyslope's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while Liberty is ranked 148th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sunnyslope's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Maggie Luba, who scored 19 points along with four steals, and Teagan McIlroy, who dropped a triple-double on 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists. McIlroy is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played. Shannon McIlroy was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with two steals.
Boulder Creek suffered their biggest defeat since November 27, 2023 on Thursday. They were dealt a 67-11 defeat at the hands of Pinnacle. Boulder Creek has struggled against Pinnacle recently, as their game on Thursday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Sunnyslope's victory bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Boulder Creek, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-16 record this season.
Sunnyslope came up short against Boulder Creek when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 51-43. Can Sunnyslope avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
