St. Bonaventure and Grace are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Seraphs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lancers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as St. Bonaventure comes in on five and Grace on four.
St. Bonaventure's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They walked away with a 3-0 victory over Santa Clara.
The result came thanks to Jessika Soliz's shutout, as she gave up just four hits.
At the plate, Hudson Ortiz was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Grace). Everything went their way against Bishop Diego on Thursday as they made off with a 17-0 win. Considering the Lancers have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Lucy Salazar made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.
In other pitching news, Grace gave Rosy Salazar the start and clearly made the right call: she struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Salazar has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Grace let Eden Tuso and Grace Maguire run wild. Tuso went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Maguire went 3-for-4 with four runs, two triples, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave Maguire a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddy Kenny, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs and one RBI.
Grace kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive contests.
Grace's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for St. Bonaventure, their win bumped their record up to 16-6-1.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. St. Bonaventure hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .388. However, it's not like Grace struggles in that department as they've averaged .350. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Bonaventure was able to grind out a solid victory over Grace in their previous meeting two weeks ago, winning 10-6. Do the Seraphs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lancers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
