Newsome hasn't had much luck against Durant recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Newsome will take on Durant at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Newsome barely beat Spoto the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Newsome blew past Spoto 7-1 on Tuesday. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Newsome got a great performance from AIDEN DOLAN as he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. DOLAN has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

ANTHONY DEVITO

03/19/25 vs Plant | 1 |
03/17/25 vs King | 1 |
03/11/25 @ Sumner | 1 |
02/24/25 vs Brandon | 2 |
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on ANTHONY DEVITO, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. ALEC CHIN was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Durant). They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over Brandon on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cougars considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Zach Nero looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Brady Kelley and Brantley Hayward did most of the damage at the plate: Kelley went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Hayward went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Dylan Karnowski also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Durant always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Newsome pushed their record up to 14-3 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Durant, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Newsome has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Durant struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Newsome suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Durant when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can Newsome avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
