Softball Recap: Crowley Takes a Loss

If Crowley was riding high fresh off their 18-7 takedown of St. Martinville last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Crowley Gent fell just short of the Basile Bearcats by a score of 11-10 on Thursday. The Gent's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Zailey Smith was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Smith was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Emma Craedur led a balanced group of hitters, going 1-for-4 with four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Laykn Lalonde, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Having lost for the first time this season, Crowley fell to 3-1. As for Basile, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1-1.

Looking ahead, Crowley will face off against Abbeville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Basile, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Basile Bearcats take on Merryville Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
