The Jefferson Saints will face off against the Fort Lupton Bluedevils at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Jefferson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Jefferson took a 12-run defeat the last time they faced off against Englewood, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Saints skirted past the Pirates 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Saints have posted since April 29, 2024.
Demetrius Martinez made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Martinez was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Guillermo Lopez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. He has become a key player for Jefferson: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-4 otherwise.
Meanwhile, Fort Lupton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against Olathe, falling 13-3.
Javier Ortiz was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-2. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
The victory made it two in a row for Jefferson and bumps their season record up to 3-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Fort Lupton, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Jefferson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .439. However, it's not like Fort Lupton struggles in that department as they've averaged .495. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Jefferson took their victory against Fort Lupton in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 18-11 score. Will the Saints repeat their success, or do the Bluedevils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
