New Haven is 2-7 against South Adams since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Bulldogs will host the Starfires at 5:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
New Haven barely beat Fort Wayne North Side the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Legends on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Legends: they've now won nine in a row.
Jaslene Gomez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those hits were her first of the season.

In other batting news, Cassidy Johnson was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Jaedyn Hoover, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.
New Haven always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Wayne North Side only posted an OBP of .158.
Meanwhile, South Adams put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Blackford a 12-0 shutout. Fans of the Starfires have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Tessa Bernard and Avery Brown did most of the damage at the plate: Bernard went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Brown went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzie Neuenschwander, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
South Adams' win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for New Haven, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
New Haven might still be hurting after the 15-1 defeat they got from South Adams when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
