The Rossville Hornets will take on the Western Boone Stars at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Rossville is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games.
Rossville is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over Benton Central. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won 16 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Avery Layton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addi Gorbett, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brielle Layton, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Rossville hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Western Boone won against Lafayette Jefferson on Thursday with five runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Stars never let Rensselaer Central get on the board and left with a 5-0 win. The victory was nothing new for the Stars as they're now sitting on five straight.
Like Rossville, Western Boone also got a great game from a two-way player: Mickey Burns. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Burns was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Raina Lutz was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Rossville's record is now 20-5. As for Western Boone, their record now sits at an identical 20-5.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Rossville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .479. However, it's not like Western Boone struggles in that department as they've averaged .453. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
