The Gaston Christian Eagles will face off against the Greensboro Day School Bengals at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Gaston Christian will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Gaston Christian barely beat Asheville Christian Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles blew past the Lions 14-4 on Friday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by eight runs or more this season.
Cooper Summerlin made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Xander Sutton was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and one double. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Carter Rowe was another key player, going 1-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, with a playoff win on the line, Greensboro Day School rose to the challenge on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Eagles, sneaking past 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bengals have posted since February 25th.
The team relied heavily on Cooper Braxton, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Greensboro Day School is 5-1 when Braxton posts two or more runs, but 6-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Oliver Fisher, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Gaston Christian pushed their record up to 16-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Greensboro Day School, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Gaston Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Greensboro Day School struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Gaston Christian beat Greensboro Day School 4-0 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Bengals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
