Basketball Recap: Nash Central Drops Season-High Score on Southeast Halifax

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Nash Central). They claimed a resounding 72-37 victory over the Southeast Halifax Trojans. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 264th, while the Trojans are ranked 561st), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Nash Central's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was JaKayla Gay, who posted 19 points in addition to eight assists and eight boards. That's the most assists Gay has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Marquasia Warren, who went 9 of 16 on her way to 21 points and three steals.

Gay wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Nash Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

The victory (which was Nash Central's third in a row) raised their record to 8-5. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points per game. As for Southeast Halifax, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-12.

Nash Central will face off against Bunn at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Southeast Halifax, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Rocky Mount Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
