Baseball Recap: Pontotoc Has No Trouble Against West Point

Pontotoc owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over the West Point Green Wave. Considering the Warriors have won six games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Caden Spears made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Spears was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cayson Witcher, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-1. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Corbyn Clayton, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

The victory made it two in a row for Pontotoc and bumps their season record up to 14-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for West Point, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-15.

Pontotoc will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Green Wave: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
