On Friday, the Blue Ridge Barons faced the Oak Hill Academy Warriors in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Blue Ridge ended up on the wrong side of a rough 83-58 walloping at the hands of Oak Hill Academy. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Blue Ridge in their matchups with Oak Hill Academy: they've now lost four in a row.
Shanon Simango and Colby White certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Simango scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks, while White scored 14 points. Simango hasn't dropped below 15 points for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamren Martin, who scored nine points.
Blue Ridge has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-7 record this season. As for Oak Hill Academy, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-3.
Blue Ridge won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Moravian Prep at 5:30 p.m. on January 27th. Moravian Prep knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 17 contests -- so hopefully Blue Ridge likes a good challenge. As for Oak Hill Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Shabach Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Shabach Christian Academy is ranked 37th in Maryland, while Oak Hill Academy is ranked 24th in Virginia).
