Basketball Recap: Lincoln Southwest Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Makkiah Sanders and Uzziah Sanders

Lincoln Southwest suffered their closest loss since January 26, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of the Lincoln North Star Navigators by a score of 66-63. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Silver Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 74-61 back in January.

Lincoln Southwest's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Uzziah Sanders, who went 7 for 15 on his way to 26 points in addition to seven boards and three steals, and Makkiah Sanders, who went 9 of 14 en route to 25 points and seven rebounds. Uzziah's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Dakari Wilson, who posted seven points and three steals.

It was another big night for Jordan Castor, who went 9 of 17 en route to 28 points and five assists for Lincoln North Star. That's the most points Castor has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of William Schafer, who had ten points along with seven boards and three steals.

Lincoln Southwest's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Lincoln North Star, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season.

Lincoln Southwest will face off against Creighton Prep at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Lincoln Southwest knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matchups -- so hopefully Creighton Prep likes a good challenge. As for Lincoln North Star, they will take on Lincoln Northeast in a tournament on Saturday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a seven-game winning streak alive.
