Baseball Recap: Monett Find Success

Monett lost to McDonald County back in April of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Cubs came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 6-3. The game was the first time the Cubs have beaten the Mustangs on their field since April 9, 2019.

Aidan Clapper made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

Clapper wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Miles Young, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Monett's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for McDonald County, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Coming up, Monett will take on East Newton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for McDonald County, they will head out on the road to face off against Seneca at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
